Okay, so there wasn’t really much promotion for this film whatsoever. And when I mean ‘not a lot’, I mean none at all. I don’t even think I saw the trailer on TV.
The only reason I knew about this film was because I’d read the book a couple of years back, and then a friend mentioned that we should go and see it together. And I’m so thankful that we did.
It was amazing.
There was quite a bit of storyline and background to fit into the film, but they managed it, and in such a way that it meant there was never a dull moment on screen. It was very fast paced with so much action and stunning acting from the main characters; Chloë Grace Mortez, Nick Robinson, Zackary Arthur and Alex Roe.
The basic storyline is that the human population is being wiped out in a series of ‘waves’ (hence the name), initiated by aliens. First thing’s first, it’s no where near as clichéd as it sounds, because the whole ‘alien invasion’ thing can result in a few eye rolls and an “oh, not this plot again”. Trust me. I’ve been there.
But honestly, it’s so much more than that, it’s full of plot twists, nail biting scenes and a burning reality as the characters are torn between who to trust – your mind starts racing too.
“How do you rid the Earth of humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.”
